A quoted milk price is only one part of a dairy sales arrangement. Payment terms, quality rules, collection, cooling access and deductions can affect the net amount and the work required to supply a buyer.
Ask how the quote is defined
Confirm whether the amount is per litre, what quality tests or standards apply, how rejections are handled and whether any charges are deducted. Ask for the terms in writing and check how often they can change.
Check collection and cooling
Clarify collection times, distance, delivery responsibilities and what happens when transport or cooling is interrupted. Follow current milk-handling requirements and seek guidance from the relevant dairy authorities.
Compare payment terms
Record payment frequency, delivery records, expected payment date and the process for resolving discrepancies. Compare more than one buyer using the same volume, quality and transport assumptions.
Track your own cost and records
Keep dated delivery notes and records of milk volumes, feed, labour, transport and other costs. These records help you discuss buyer terms and review enterprise performance.
This is a comparison checklist, not a report on current Kenyan milk prices. Confirm buyer terms and the current requirements that apply to your supply route.
